Doç. Dr. Burak GÜMÜŞ

Burak Gümüş, born in Germany in 1974, studied Sociology (Migration, Marginal Groups, Xenophobia) and Political Science (State
Theories, International Cooperation, Foreign Policy) at the University of Constance (Universität Konstanz). He made there his PhD on the
"Revival of Alevism in Turkey and in Germany". His fields of research interest are Alevism; Collective Memory; Rituals and Identity;
Transnational Migration; German-Turkish Relations; German-Turks, New Media, Political Institutions and Sociology, Turkish Foreign Policy
and Turkish Politics. He has several publications mainly dealing with Turkish Alevis. He is Associate Professor, PhD in the Division for
Political and Social Sciences at the Department for Public Administration in the Faculty for Economics and Administrative Sciences at the Trakya University in Edirne/Turkey.

Dr. Yaşar AYDIN

Hamburg Üniversitesi’nde sosyoloji ve iktisat bilimi öğrenimi gördü, sonrasında  Lancaster Üniversitesi’nde sosyoloji dalında yüksek lisans eğitimi aldı. 2002’de Lancaster Üniversitesi’nde “Social Theory, Time-Space and Social Exclusion” konulu master tezini ve 2003’te Hamburg Üniversitesi’nde ‘Melezlik Kavramı Üzerine’ konulu bitirme tezini verdi. 2009’da aynı üniversitede ‘Bir Sosyal Kurgu Olarak Yabancılığın Analizi ve Eleştirisi’ başlıklı doktora tezini vererek doktorasını aldı. Yaşar Aydın Nisan 2013’e kadar çalışmalarını HWWİ’de ve Hamburg Üniversitesi’nde sosyal araştırmacı olarak devam ettirmiş, Nisan 2013’den itibaren ise Berlin’de Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik araştırma enstitüsünde Stiftung Mercator bursiyeri olarak Türkiye’nin Dış Türklere Yönelik Politikası konulu bir araştırma yürütmektedir. Hamburg Üniversitesinde ve Rauhes Haus’da sosyolojik konular ve sosyal bilim alanında ders vermeye devam etmektedir.

Dr. Yaşar Aydın studierte an der Universität Hamburg Soziologie und Volkswirtschaft (2001), absolvierte an der Universität Lancaster (England) sein Masterstudium in Soziologie (2002) und promovierte 2009 an der Universität Hamburg mit der Dissertationsschrift „Topoi des Fremden: Zur Analyse und Kritik einer sozialen Konstruktion“. Nach der Promotion arbeitete er im Hamburgischen WeltWirtschaftsInstitut und an der Universität Hamburg als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter. Er beschäftigt sich insbesondere mit Migrations- und Integrationstheorien, Migrationsbewegungen zwischen Deutschland und der Türkei und mit der Türkeiforschung. Derzeit ist er Mercator-IPC Fellow an der SWP und forscht zum Thema „Die neue Diasporapolitik der Türkei“ und lehrt in Hamburg. Seine aktuelle Publikation: „Transnational statt nicht integriert: Abwanderung türkeistämmiger Hochqualifizierter aus Deutschland“.

Dr. Seçil PAÇACI ELİTOK

In 2008, Dr. Seçil Paçacı Elitok received her Ph. D. in economics from the University of Utah (USA), where she specialized in economic growth, development economics and international trade. She worked as an instructor throughout her graduate studies in the Economics Department of the University of Utah before joining the Maltepe University, Istanbul (Turkey), where she had the opportunity to participate in research projects on migration and coordinate the Erasmus program as well as enriching her teaching portfolio. She joined the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) in June 2009 as Marie Curie Fellow in the context of the EU Marie Curie Research Training Network TOM (Transnationality of Migrants) and worked as a senior researcher in the Migration Research Group (MRG).  She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at University of Hamburg where she co-edited the book : Turkey, Migration and the EU: Potentials, Challenges and Opportunities (with Thomas Straubhaar).Her main research interests are international migration with a specific focus on migration from and to Turkey as well as high-skilled migration and remittances. She has been working as Mercator-IPC Fellow at Istanbul Policy Center, Sabancı University since September,2012 on the research project entitled ‘ Role of Migration in EU/German-Turkish Relations’.
